PLC ladder logic beside SCADA dashboards showing furnace control, trends and alarms

Every variable, alarm and trendon one screen

Operator screens and supervisory systems designed around how the plant is run day to day, built, configured and commissioned by the same engineers who wrote the PLC logic underneath.

PLC, panel and screens

What this covers

Screen design that suits the operator

A start-up screen, a running screen and a fault screen, laid out the way the plant is driven. Colour is reserved for abnormal conditions, so an alarm is the first thing you see.

Alarm rationalisation

Priorities that mean something, deadbands and delays set so a shift is not buried in nuisance alarms, and shelving for known faults. An alarm list nobody reads is worse than none.

Trends and historian

Logging at a rate that matches the process, retained long enough to be useful, with trends an engineer can pull up during a stoppage rather than after it.

Reporting

Shift, batch and production reports generated from the same data the operator sees — to PDF or Excel, on schedule or on demand.

Recipe and batch handling

Parameter sets stored, versioned and downloaded to the PLC on selection, so changing product does not mean an engineer editing setpoints by hand.

Redundancy and resilience

Redundant servers and dual network paths where a stoppage is expensive, and screens that keep the plant running when the supervisory layer is down.

Users, access and audit

Role-based logins so an operator, an engineer and a manager see and change different things, with a record of who changed what.

Remote and mobile access

Read-only dashboards on a phone or a manager’s desk, over VPN rather than exposed to the internet. This is where our own SENTIENT platform usually comes in.

Platforms we work on

We are not tied to one vendor. The right controller is the one your maintenance team can get spares for.

Siemens

WinCC and WinCC Unified, plus Comfort and Basic panels on Profinet.

Allen-Bradley

FactoryTalk View SE and ME, with PanelView Plus terminals over EtherNet/IP.

AVEVA / Wonderware

InTouch and System Platform where an existing site standard is already in place.

Ignition

Unlimited-client licensing and browser-delivered screens, where seat count would otherwise drive the cost.

SENTIENT

Our own platform — local SCADA, reporting, recipe and AI analytics on a Rust backend that runs from an edge box to a cluster.

Mitsubishi Electric

GOT series terminals with GT Designer, typically alongside MELSEC controllers.

Delta

DOP series panels with DOPSoft, where a compact machine HMI is all that is needed.

Phoenix Contact

PLCnext-based visualisation and web HMI. We are an authorised system integrator for Phoenix Contact.

Running on something obsolete?

Most of what we are called in for is an existing plant — a control system nobody can buy parts for any more.

  • Windows XP SCADA nobody dares patchA supported platform on current hardware, screens rebuilt
  • Dead or unobtainable HMI panelsA current terminal, screens recreated from the running plant
  • Chart recorders and panel metersLogged, trended and reportable data
  • Alarm lists thousands of rows longRationalised priorities an operator can act on
  • Readings copied onto a clipboardAutomatic shift and batch reports

How a job runs

Design, build and commissioning are all ours, so there is no gap between the drawing, the panel and the engineer on site.

  1. 01

    Operations walkthrough

We sit with the people who run the plant and find out what they watch, and what they can safely ignore.

  2. 02

    Screen and alarm design

Navigation, screen hierarchy, tag list and alarm philosophy agreed on paper before configuration starts.

  3. 03

    Configuration

Screens, historian, reports and recipes built against the PLC tag list — usually our own, so the naming matches.

  4. 04

    Factory acceptance test

Driven from simulated I/O so operators can click through every screen and alarm before site.

  5. 05

    Commissioning

Live on plant with our engineers on shift, tuning deadbands and alarm limits against real behaviour.

  6. 06

    Training and handover

Operators trained on the running system, with the project files, licences and backups handed over.

What you get at handover

Documentation is part of the job. You should be able to maintain the system yourself, and call us because you want to.

  • Screen hierarchy and navigation drawing
  • Tag list, cross-referenced to the PLC
  • Alarm schedule with priorities and setpoints
  • Historian and retention configuration
  • Report and recipe templates
  • SCADA project source and runtime backup
  • Licence and activation records
  • FAT and SAT records, signed
  • Operation and maintenance manual
  • Operator and engineer training
